mbird donation #1
Jul 14th
Sorry we’ve been away from the blog for so long, getting the site up and running during the Phish tour was pretty hectic! But we’ve calmed down quite a bit now and are gearing up for their second leg as well as tons of festies and other shows that will be captured and shared on the site. Today is a significant one as we are formally making our first donation to the Mockingbird Foundation. When we started this, we said that we hoped to raise $500 for this amazing organization in our first year… well we’ve surpassed that number in our More >
ROOdiculous glow stick war
May 14th
The votes are in. And Bassnectar don’t know what he’s got coming his way at Bonnaroo this year.
We have teamed up with the Midnight Voyage, an absolutely awesome radio station broadcasting in Knoxville, TN, to demolish the Bassnectar set at Roo. The polls have been open on Facebook and on the air for the last two weeks, and over 100 votes were cast for the best late night set to make it rain Show Sticks. We had the pleasure of doing a little interview on the air last night – in case you missed it, check out this clip of More >
sorry we’re late… here’s what we’ve got so far
May 10th
OK… so we were a little optimistic with the countdown. As you may have noticed, we were scheduled to launch tomorrow – and we ain’t gonna make it. The main reason is that we haven’t quite made the site as awesome as it needs to be, but we’re getting very close and this post will hopefully show that. Important: the website delay will not affect any Show Stick pre-sale orders. All orders will still be delivered by June 4th.
Alright, so here’s where we’re at. GlowStickWars.com is in its final stages of beta testing and we’re just putting the finishing More >
the story of the name
Apr 27th
I feel I never told you how (or why) GlowStickWars.com got its name. There’s the obvious part: we sell Show Sticks, our fan-branded (franded?) concert-friendly glow sticks. Then, there’s the not so obvious part… After all, GSW is going to be a community of live music fans engaging in concert photo sharing in a new and more useful way. Imagine if facebook and flickr got together, threw on something from ‘94, sparked one up, and had a kid: we’re that kid! We’re going to release some screen shots next week to give you a deeper look into what the site More >
show sticks pre-sale deadline approaching…
Apr 19th
I think we all knew that $5.99 tubes of Show Sticks wouldn’t last forever. But they will last just a little while longer. May 15th, 2010 will be the last day to pre-order your tube of 100 Show Sticks at the special price of $5.99. We’re trying to keep the price as low as possible moving forward, but there will definitely be a significant increase after the pre-sale period is over. I.e. if you were planning on getting a bunch of sticks for the upcoming tours and/or festies – get on that!
If you need some additional motivation, consider this:
- With every tube you purchase, More >
two free tickets to bonnaroo…
Apr 15th
In case you were unaware, we will be holding a draw for two FREE tickets to bonnaroo 2010 in about two weeks! There are two ways to win: buy a tube of Show Sticks during the pre-sale for just $5.99 (for each tube you buy, you will receive one entry into the draw.. more tubes = more chances to win), or write us an essay entitled “Why Glow Sticks are Awesome”. Truth be told, the purpose of this post was to share one such essay we received today. Among the many essays we’ve gotten throughout the contest period, we especially liked More >
sell on lot… a lot.
Apr 7th
We are looking for a select group of entrepreneurial heads who would be interested in selling Show Sticks on lot. Before anyone criticizes this idea, I offer you this: in consideration of all the crap that’s floating around the lot (especially tanks), please keep in mind that adding a product that is safe and has some of its proceeds donated to charity is a good thing.
I once saw a dude selling the thick glow sticks for $2 each outside a show and he was making a killing! Our plan is to keep the price of Show Sticks as low as More >
so apparently some people don’t love glow stick wars…
Mar 26th
GlowStickWars.com will be first and foremost a photo and video sharing community dedicated to offering an easier and more interactive way for live music fans to share their content. Please let’s not forget that. That being said…
We get it. There are a lot of people who don’t like glow stick wars. This post is for you; all we ask is that you read it with an open mind. From what we can tell, there are two main concerns with glow stick wars:
- Jerks who throw the thick, dangerous glow rods; and
- Jerks who throw ANYTHING near the stage or the band.

launching the pre-launch before the full launch is launched… launch
Mar 22nd
The word launch has officially lost all meaning to us.
Here we are, hours away from the first glimpse of GlowStickWars.com becoming available (just a little splash page, but it’s something) – frantically triple-checking every piece of copy and code to make sure that everything runs smoothly at 4:20 tomorrow Tuesday morning. With The Mockingbird Foundation giving us a nice PR bump tomorrow on Tuesday, we’re optimistic about getting the word out to quite a few people; after all, you are reading this, aren’t you?
The actual site is set to launch at the beginning of May (or possibly sooner) so please don’t be shy with More >
they give us a show… let’s return the favor
Mar 18th
Get thousands and millions of those little ringed ones. They’re thin. They couldn’t hurt a fly. Throw them around. They’ll look amazing. They really will. But I think everyone’s against the thick, plastic ones. - Chris Kuroda, Phish Lighting GuruThat quote was from an old interview that Kuroda gave to Jeff Waful of JamBands.com, and it is posted up on the wall in every room of our office. They will look amazing. They really will. And they feel amazing too. There is something unifying about a glow stick war. The crowd is acting as one to entertain themselves and the band. It’s our way of giving More >
